Ciklum is looking for a Expert JavaScript Engineer to join our team full-time in Ukraine.

About the role:
As a Expert JavaScript Engineer, become a part of a cross-functional development team engineering experiences of tomorrow.
Responsibilities: * Design and implement scalable, reliable backend systems — from architecture through production deployment * Harden and optimize the platform for stability, performance, and release readiness * Lead implementation of backend services, APIs, and data models with a strong focus on maintainability and versioning strategies * Set technical standards and establish best practices across code quality, architecture, and system design * Act as a hands-on technical leader reviewing code, debugging complex issues, and improving performance where needed * Collaborate closely with Product, QA, and Design to translate business problems into well-structured technical solutions * Ask the right technical questions early to clarify requirements and reduce downstream risk * Help define engineering roadmaps, technical milestones, and delivery metrics * Improve development workflows and processes to increase team velocity and reliability
Requirements: * 10+ years of professional backend engineering experience building production systems * Proven experience designing and implementing complex software systems end-to-end * Understands Database Modeling, managing complex Database Transactions, and ensuring data integrity across distributed systems * Strong experience with API design and versioning strategies * Deep knowledge of data modeling, normalization, query optimization, and indexing * Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB * Experience building REST and/or GraphQL services * Strong proficiency in a modern backend language (Node.js preferred) * Experience shipping highly reliable systems in cloud environments * Ability to operate independently while contributing to broader technical direction * Experience working across cross-functional teams to deliver complex product features * Comfortable owning ambiguous, high-impact technical problems * Strong architectural instincts paired with hands-on implementation skills * Focused on building production-ready systems, not just prototypes * Raises the technical bar through both execution and influence
